Today Dan was out delivering the second day of the Mountain Training Hill Skills course to the 6 candidates from the Quantock Hills and Mendip Hills AONB services.
The day was based from Triscombe on the Quantock Hills.
Movement techniques on steep ground started off the day by making their way up onto Wills Neck (highest point on the Quantocks).
Over the rest of the day we covered more basic navigation skills, effects of weather, using an emergency shelter, the moorland environment, risk management, relocation techniques and walking on bearings.
This all took place during a steady 18km route taking in the northern commons and the forests of Cockercombe and Ramscombe.
